At the June 18, 2019 Board of Supervisors meeting, a referral was made requesting the formation of a multi-disciplinary working group to develop options for consideration on policy changes, treatment protocols and services to reduce the burden of syphilis and congenital syphilis in Santa Clara County. The group consists of representatives from Health System Administration, Public Health, Office of the Sheriff, Custody Health Services, Office of LGBTQ Affairs, District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, County Counsel and Office of the County Executive. The group has met a number of times both as a whole and as a smaller sub-group. Through discussions, the group has developed a pilot program for distribution of condoms in County Jails.
