Approval of Elmwood and Main Jail Suicide Prevention Barriers Capital Improvement Project

Project provides for the design and construction of barriers to prevent inmates from jumping off the second floor. The second floor currently has safety guardrails per building codes but do not prevent a person from climbing on the rails. The proposed barrier will extend from the floor to the bottom of the ceiling to prevent unauthorized climbing along the 2nd floor walkway and the upper portions of the staircase. The system will also maintain sightline visibility to the cells.  Areas under evaluation for suicide prevention barriers include Main Jail North 8A, 8B, 8C, 4B and Elmwood M8H and W4A.
