Reason(s) for approval of amendment
Ongoing, uninterrupted availability of inmate telephone services in the jails is critical to the successful and safe daily operation of the jails and also enables the Sheriff’s Office and Department of Correction (“SO/DOC”) to meet certain legal requirements for the provision of telephone services to detainees.
Unless amended, the Agreement currently in place with GTL will expire on November 15, 2018. The time remaining on the existing Agreement with GTL is not sufficient to complete contract negotiations and implementation of a new ICS and tablet services contract in the jails. Extending the GTL Agreement will enable the SO/DOC to effectively and efficiently complete this procurement process and implement new and improved services in the jails. The Amendment is structured with terms that allow termination at the discretion of the County, with 30 days’ notice to the vendor.
