The initial project scope was to convert existing medium security housing to maximum security housing, add more security features to windows throughout the facility, and incorporate ADA features on the fourth and fifth floors.
While constructing the first two dorms, several conditions arose that require contract modifications and funding for same. The project team was made aware that additional temporary shoring would be needed to support the weight of the concrete floors above during the demolition phase. Additionally, the Department of Corrections requested the addition of cuff ports to cell doors, the repair of existing metal door frames, and the inclusion of suicide prevention features that impacted the planned ADA improvements.
