Urgent action was required prior to the scheduled Board meeting in order to immediately encourage and promote inmates’ communications with friends, family and others outside the jail.

In order to immediately affect a reduction to stress in the jails during the COVID-19 emergency, the Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the County Executive jointly recommend providing inmates with limited free telephone calls, retroactive to April 13, 2020 (as detailed in the table below). These free telephone calls are in addition to the existing paid phone calls that are available to inmates.
