On February 7, 2023, the Board of Supervisors approved a referral to the Office of Correction and Law Enforcement Monitoring, in collaboration with County Counsel, the Office of the Sheriff, and any other relevant departments, to report to the Board of Supervisors on or before May 2, 2023, with an analysis of the incidents and events involving Juan Martin Nuñez that began on August 3, 2019, including ongoing criminal justice reform recommendations with a particular focus on policy, systems, and culture changes.
