In response to the Board of Supervisors meeting held on August 30, 2016, Item No. 12, the Administration developed options to improve the video surveillance at Main Jail South that will become obsolete as the County completes approved jail construction and renovation projects. These options are listed below:

Option 1. Replace the existing South Jail video surveillance system as part of the Fiscal Year (“FY”) 20l6 Board-approved project to replace the same systems in Main Jail North and the Elmwood Correctional Facility.  The Facilities and Fleet Department (“FAF”) estimates this option would cost $2.5 million and delay the project by nearly 8 months.

Option 2. Add cameras to the existing system.  FAF estimates this option would cost $400,000 and require 6 to 9 months to install.

Option 3. Install temporary stand-alone systems that consist of cameras connected to local recording devices, similar to what is already installed at Main Jail North. FAF estimates this option would cost $300,000 and require 3 to 4 months to install.
